We created the blog primarily to offer you extended content, and we hope you’re enjoying the wonderful guest writers who have been kind enough to join us here. But this week, I’d like to take the opportunity to catch you up on Memorious news:
- Memorious 14 is live! A special addition this time around is our new Art Song Collaboration section. Randall West has selected three poems of Jill McDonough from our Art Song Contest, and he has composed three beautiful works with them. The Beacon Street Chamber Players of Chicago have recorded these in an initial reading, and you can listen to them in the new issue. For those of you in or near Chicago, you can also come hear them perform the work live on May 23rd.
- We’re pleased to announce that two of our nominees for Best of the Net 2009, Leslie Harrison and Melissa Range, were selected by Judges Patricia Smith and Kim Chinquee. There were nominations from over 75 online journals this year, and this is our third year in a row of being included in this online anthology. We’re thrilled to be part of this year’s terrific line-up.
- If you haven’t seen one of Dzanc books’ Best of the Web anthologies yet, you’ve been missing out. These annual print anthologies bring online journals together onto the page, and we’ve been impressed with the poetry and fiction they select. And no, we’re not just saying that because Memorious nominees have been selected for inclusion for the third year in a row! Congratulations to Mary Biddinger and Leslie Harrison, who will both appear in Best of the Web 2010.
- We are headed to the AWP (Associated Writing Programs) conference in Denver this week. If you’re there, please stop by and say hello at the Memorious Table (Exhibit Hall A, i24) and enter our AWP raffle. Prizes include gift cards to the hotel bar and Memorious wine. We’ll also have free broadsides of a selection of poems from our new issue. You can even listen to the art song collaborations between composer Randall West and Memorious art song contest winner Jill McDonough.
We hope you enjoy the new issue, and we’ll be back next week with more guest writers for our weekly posts.
